What an extraordinary year this has been. Starting with the “beast from the east” which kept our Spring gardens very late, though snowdrops lasted very well. This was followed by a very good warm damp spell which spurred on the spring growth, great shows of daffodils and tulips, and the grass started to grow. Then there was the unprecedented period of very hot dry weather, and without watering, grass and borders dried up. On the home front, we had to work hard to have our garden looking good for our family party in July – our Australian daughter-in-law was amazed by the high temperatures Scotland produced.
Our vegetable garden gave us produce in abundance, thanks to lots of watering from our water buts. We have just eaten the last of our grapes and tomatoes from the greenhouse, and now preparing for the big ‘tidy up’ before winter sets in.
Leaf collection and hedge cutting are in full swing; do remember that you can make great leaf mould which will be of benefit both your vegetable garden and flower borders.
Before you put your lawnmower into the back of the shed to be forgotten till next Spring, bring it out for a service. We will change the oil, sharpen and balance the blades and ensure that the deck is clean and safe, ready for next year.
If you are in thinking about a new machine for next year we are offering up to 15% off any mowers we have in stock until the end of January 2019.
You are welcome to have a look around our shop, in the comfort of our wood burning stove.
From all at Marshalls Garden Machinery we wish you a very happy Christmas and a great gardening new year.
